The 2026 World Sight Day ceremony was held at the Sao San Tun General Hospital in Taunggyi on Wednesday. Chief Minister U Sai Htein Soe attended the event, and made a speech, saying that blindness and visual impairment are important public health issues.

He urged government departments, partner organizations, volunteers and the public to work together to improve eye care services and reduce preventable blindness. This year’s World Sight Day theme is “Love Your Eyes.” The campaign encourages people to share eye health knowledge, protect their eyesight and pay attention to eye care from childhood to adulthood, including at workplaces.

During the ceremony, officials reported on blindness prevention activities in the state, and gave a presentation on eye diseases. After the ceremony, the Chief Minister and officials visited exhibition booths and helped provide spectacles to patients who had undergone eye surgery.
