With the aim of fostering the systematic and sustainable development of Myanmar's tourism industry, reviving the international tourism market, and providing comprehensive support to the state economy and the socio-economic lives of the people through balanced public-private cooperation, a meeting with hotel and tourism-related associations was held on the morning of October 12 at Office No. (33), of the Ministry of Culture, Hotels and Tourism in Nay Pyi Taw.
In his opening speech, Union Minister U Khin Maung Soe stated that developing the tourism sector is not solely aimed at increasing the number of tourists, but also effectively promoting Myanmar's culture, nature, and national image internationally. He added that tourism and the hotel industry are mutually dependent sectors and serve as key pillars for the country's economy, job creation, and the promotion of Myanmar's culture, cuisine, and hospitality globally.
Subsequently, Deputy Minister U Phyo Zaw Soe discussed the ongoing formation of three committees under the Myanmar Tourism Law of 2018: the Central Committee for National Tourism Development, the Tourism Committee, and Regional Tourism Committees. He also discussed the formulation of tourism promotion projects across regions and states, as well as initiatives to further enhance digital payment systems, e-ticketing, and the use of AI technology.
Following that, officials from the Myanmar Tourism Federation and its affiliated associations discussed their respective sectors' current implementation statuses, future potentials, challenges faced, and future plans. The Union Minister then provided necessary supplementary instructions based on these discussions, it’s reported.
