Sagaing Region Chief Minister U Ko Lay attended a coordination meeting on preventive measures for potential natural disasters caused by the El Niño phenomenon.

During the meeting on October 12, the Chief Minister stated that departmental officials and administrative teams need to prioritize and collaborate on necessary preparations to address severe weather conditions that may result from El Niño. He emphasized the need for advance preparations, as El Niño can bring rising temperatures, droughts, water shortages, sudden storms, and unseasonal rainfall.

He highlighted the importance of inter-departmental coordination to establish heat-relief shelters and pre-arrange solar-powered lighting systems. Furthermore, he noted that hospitals and clinics must stock up on essential medical supplies and equipment, and conduct health awareness lectures for the public, adding that the Regional Government will facilitate and provide the necessary support and coordination.

Following this, attendees presented updates on pre-arranged measures and ongoing operational plans regarding disaster prevention for the El Niño phenomenon in the region. The Regional Chief Minister then coordinated with relevant officials to address and fulfill the requirements based on the discussions and presentations.
