Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Aye Kyaw, together with the Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, inspected ongoing emergency protection works at Ma Mya Dam in Myanaung Township on Sunday.

Efforts are being made for lowering the emergency spillway level from 312 feet to 307 feet to reduce water levels and reinforcing the weakened embankment. Water is also being released through two outlet gates at a rate of about 400 cubic feet per second.

The released water flows through Yaywa ရေဝါ Creek and Ma Mya Creek into the Ngawun River. Although no damage has been reported so far, residents in areas at risk of flooding have been relocated to higher ground as a precaution. The regional government provided rice to the displaced residents, while security personnel, firefighters and local officials are assisting with evacuation and safety measures.
