U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio began a tour of Europe on Tuesday by meeting with Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrun Frostadottir.

Rubio will meet with officials in Reykjavik to discuss economic and security collaboration. Iceland is poised to play an increasingly strategic role given the tensions in the Arctic. The brief visit, which is as symbolic as it is political, comes in the wake of the security agreement on Greenland, signed ten days ago on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
