Dogs rescued in final mission as S. Korea counts down to dog meat ban

Members of animal welfare group Humane World for Animals Korea rescue dozens of dogs from a dog meat farm in Gangjin County, South Korea. The NGO says is its last such operation before the country's dog meat ban takes effect in February 2027.

 Wendy Higgins, Director, Int'l Media at Humane World for Animals said  "We are rescuing 38 dogs from this farm today. In total there were 70 dogs on the farm. But we've pre-removed some vulnerable mums and their newborn puppies. And they will be flown to the United States. They will spend some time in our rescue and rehabilitation centre, both in the United States and in Montreal, Canada. And then they will move on to the next stage of being matched with adoptive homes." 

Wendy Higgins added that other countries where the dog and cat meat trade still exists can learn a lesson from the fact that South Korea has phased out a substantial dog meat industry in about three years.
