Brazilian President Lula signs a law to make women's football a policy 'priority'

Brazilian President Lula da Silva signed a law into effect that makes the development of women's football a "priority of the country's national sports policy", as Brazil prepares to host the World Cup next year.

It will be the first Women's World Cup to be held in South America. The law "also guarantees organizations that train women's football players the same rights and benefits granted to organizations that train male football players," added the head of state, only a few days before an election in which he seeks to obtain a fourth term.
