Japanese PM Takaichi arrives in New York

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has arrived in New York for the United Nations General Assembly. She is also expected to hold talks with US President Donald Trump on the side-lines. Takaichi said she wants to convey Japan’s intention to play a leading role in realizing a free and open Indo-Pacific.

She highlighted areas such as strengthening energy supply chains, cooperating with the Global South and addressing challenges arising from AI and other technologies.  She also highlighted issues including North Korea’s abductions, the importance of measures against climate change, the rule of law, and the need for UN reform.
