Typhoon Dujuan nearing Japan

A large and powerful typhoon is very close to Japan's Izu Islands.  The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a Level Five Emergency Warning for Oshima Town in the Izu Islands, Tokyo Prefecture.

Agency officials are urging people to evacuate to safer locations. A Level Five Emergency Warning is the highest level of alert on the agency's scale. It is extremely likely that landslides have already occurred in some more remote areas.

Japan Meteorological Agency said that as of noon on Monday, Typhoon Dujuan was heading north-northeast over waters south of Japan at 25 kilometers per hour. While maintaining its strength, the storm is expected to continue moving in the direction of the northern Izu Islands and the Kanto-Koshin region through late Monday evening.
