Sri Lanka enforces mandatory expressway seat belt law

Sri Lanka has officially enacted mandatory seat belt regulations for all vehicle occupants traveling on the country's expressway network.

The legal requirement, originally announced a year ago, was deferred through an official grace period to allow vehicle owners sufficient time to install seat belts for rear-seat passengers. Following the expiration of the one-year adjustment window, police officers and highway safety officials have begun enforcing full compliance, prohibiting non-compliant vehicles from entering expressways and initiating legal action against both drivers and passengers who fail to wear seat belts.
