Ro pagoda ox racing stirs khmer villages into celebration

The Rô Pagoda Traditional Ox Racing Festival took place on Sunday morning, bringing excitement to in An Giang Province, Viet Nam. Dozens of ox pairs from villages across An Giang gathered at the race ground. Hundreds of spectators lined the muddy field, waving flags, beating drums and cheering on their favourites ahead of the opening heat.

The competition follows a knockout format, with pairs racing head-to-head. The festival is a source of community pride as local villages showcase their strongest oxen and most skilful jockeys, celebrating a tradition passed down through generations.
