Trade Facility : Cargo inspection checkpoint opens in Myitkyina

A new cargo inspection checkpoint has opened in Waingmaw Township of Kachin State, at the entrance to Myitkyina, to facilitate the faster and smoother movement of goods and trade.

The checkpoint, located in the Maina  Village-tract, was officially opened at 10:30 a.m. on August 29. It will inspect agricultural exports from Kachin State, including tissue-culture bananas, watermelons, chilies and rubber, as well as authorized imports from China.

The checkpoint aims to promote legal trade, increase government tax revenue and reduce illegal trade, while ensuring a steady supply of basic food, consumer goods and animal feed in the state.

Kachin State Chief Minister Khet Htein Nan attended the opening ceremony and called on officials from relevant departments to ensure accurate and efficient cargo inspections. The Chief Minister also inspected the checkpoint’s operations and the procedures for checking imported goods from China.

The Kampaiti –Myitkyina–Mandalay and Lwegel –Bhamo–Mandalay routes, which are major routes for Myanmar-China border trade in Kachin State, were temporarily closed in 2024 due to security conditions.

Following the government’s direction, the Kachin State Government opened a temporary trade facility at the Shwe Moe Taung Pagoda entrance in March 2026 to help restore normal trade operations. According to the Department of Trade, during the temporary operation, a total of 3,624 import and export vehicles handled trade worth 32.547 million US dollars.
