626 dead, 2,426 missing in Nepal floods

A total of 626 bodies had been recovered from mudslide-hit areas in Nepal as of 10:00AM local time on Saturday. In the latest report, the authority said that 2,426 people were still missing as of the same time.

Nepal's disaster agency on Friday said that 517 foreigners -- which could include tourists as well as foreign workers -- were still missing. The missing figure released on Thursday by China from its side of the border included 260 foreigners, but no breakdown on nationalities was provided.

The nationalities of the non-tourists in Nepal have also not been provided. A massive flash flood swept through Nepal’s Bhote Koshi River on Wednesday morning, affecting three districts, Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading, and causing widespread damage. The government has called for aid for the landlocked nation, reporting a "heavy loss of life and property" as it continues to assess the full scale of the destruction.
