Friendship and Unity : Kayin Traditional White Thread-Tying Ceremony in Bago

A traditional Kayin White Thread-Tying Ceremony was held at Bago City Hall on August 28, under the leadership of the Bago Region Government. Chief Minister U Myo Swe Win and his wife attended the ceremony, which opened with nine beats of a traditional Kayin frog drum.

The event included traditional Kayin dances and cultural performances by Kayin communities as well as explaining the history and tradition of white thread tying. Kayin elders then tied white threads around the wrists of the Chief Minister, his wife, government officials and department representatives as a traditional blessing for friendship, unity and goodwill.
