Central Committee Meeting : Industrial and Industrial Zone Development

The Central Committee for Industrial and Industrial Zone Development held its meeting in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday. Chairman of the Central Committee Union Minister for Industry and MSME Development Dr. Charlie Than attended the meeting and discussed the crucial role of industrial zones for strengthening the national economy, creating jobs and increasing domestic production.

He stressed the need to develop agro-based industries, produce import-substitute goods and increase exports by adding value to locally available raw materials. He called for improvements in infrastructure, stable electricity and energy supplies, better support for industries, and greater foreign investment in industrial zones in line with existing laws and regulations.

The Union Minister also highlighted the need to develop skilled workers through closer cooperation between industries and educational institutions. Myanmar currently has 57 established industrial zones and one industrial zone project.

The committee is reviewing existing zones to classify them according to size, type and level of development. During the meeting, officials reported on the implementation of decisions from the previous meeting, environmental protection in industrial zones, export and import-substitution activities, and measures to provide machinery, equipment and raw materials.

The meeting concluded with discussions and decisions on proposals submitted by regional committees and measures to further develop existing and future industrial zones systematically.
