India launches first Non-GMO popcorn maize hybrid seed

Indian Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan unveiled India’s first non-Genetically Modified Organism popcorn maize hybrid seed in Eluru on Monday, in a push toward agricultural value addition and crop diversification.

The launch, organized by Gourmet Popcornica, aims to transform traditional farming into a high-yield and profitable venture. The new indigenous seed is intended to support farmers while strengthening domestic agricultural production. Addressing the event, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan said the indigenous seed would help end India’s dependence on imported hybrid seeds.
