Knifepoint Taxi Robbers Arrested : 4 knifepoint taxi robbers arrested in Dagon Myothit (East)

Four men who allegedly robbed taxi drivers at knifepoint in Hmawbi Township and Dagon Myothit (East) Township, Yangon Region, have been identified and arrested along with the exhibits, and action is being taken to prosecute them in accordance with the law, according to the Myanmar Police Force.

According to the incident, at around 6:30 p.m. on August 17, U Aung Soe, 56-Years old, a resident of Yin Taik Kwin Village, Taikkyi Township, Yangon Region, was driving his YGN-1 DD-7113 Toyota Succeed taxi after three men, who are still being identified, hired the vehicle. When they arrived at the entrance of Myay Sa Yin Taw Ya Monastery in Bwet Gyi Village, Hmawbi Township, the three men threatened U Aung Soe with scissors and robbed him of 400,000 kyats in cash, a Redmi Note 5 mobile phone and the vehicle.

Following the report, a case was opened at Hmawbi Myoma Police Station under Case No. 401/2026 pursuant to Sections 394, 347 and 34 of the Penal Code, and investigations were launched to apprehend the perpetrators. Security personnel examined records related to the incident and conducted inquiries and investigations based on local information to identify and arrest the suspects.

As a result, the YGN-1 DD-7113 Toyota Succeed taxi, which had been taken during the robbery, was found and seized on the morning of August 21 beside Aung Thabyay Road in Ma Da မဒ Village, Ward 52, Dagon Myothit (East) Township. On the morning of August 22, one of the robbery suspects, Thet Paing Oo, a resident of Ward 51, Dagon Myothit (North) Township, was arrested at his residence. According to the statement given by suspect Thet Paing Oo, the other individuals who participated in the robberies of taxi vehicles were Hlaing Kyaw Tun, Wai Yan, and Wai Yan Tun, were subsequently arrested that afternoon.

It was learned that the suspects had committed similar robberies on August 14, 17 and 20 and had divided and spent the money obtained from the robberies among themselves. The four suspects who allegedly threatened taxi drivers with knives and committed the robberies, were identified and arrested together with the exhibits. Further action is being taken against them in accordance with the law, it’s learnt.
