Japan Typhoon, Gaenari, north-northwest of Miyakojima

Japan's weather information reported that at noon on Saturday, Typhoon Gaenari, was centered at about 90 km north-northwest of Miyakojima and it was moving slowly westward. Forecasters warned that its slow movement could make the effects last for an extended period.

Reports warn of extremely heavy rain,flooding in low-lying areas, landslides, rising river levels, strong wind gusts, lightning and possible tornadoes and dangerous conditions at sea. People in the affected islands are being urged to remain vigilant. The current forecast said Typhoon Gaenari is expected to move slowly westward toward the East China Sea around August 24.
