Ethnic Affairs : Meeting with ethnic associations in Bago Region

Union Minister for Ethnic Affairs U Than Maung met with representatives of ethnic literature and culture associations in Bago Region on Saturday.

During the meeting, the Union Minister discussed efforts to support the registration of ethnic associations, preserve ethnic languages, literature and cultural traditions, and accurately document the customs and traditional dress of ethnic groups. He also said that district-level offices will be opened to improve ethnic affairs services.

A vocational and ethnic affairs training center is also being planned in Taungoo for the 2026–2027 financial year to provide skills training for ethnic youth.

Representatives from 13 Kayin, Asho Chin, Mon, Shan and Pa-O ethnic literature and cultural associations raised issues including vocational and cultural dance training, association registration, correcting ethnic names on identity cards, office construction, support for summer language classes, and the improvement of roads and bridges.

In the afternoon, the Union Minister met with ministry staff in Bago Region and urged them to carry out their duties responsibly and maintain unity. Officials also presented updates on their work, and the Union Minister coordinated the needs.
