A mysterious illness is killing elephants in a popular tourist region in southern Kenya which lies near the Tanzanian border and Mount Kilimanjaro. At least 19 elephant deaths have been reported there since June with all of the animals exhibiting identical symptoms, including partial paralysis.

While some early tests have suggested cyanide poisoning from pesticides used on nearby farmland as the cause, local wildlife experts are not convinced and still question the possible cause of death.
