

A total solar eclipse swept across the surface of the Earth on Wednesday. The phenomenon was also visible as a partial solar eclipse across large parts of the Northern Hemisphere, including sections of the northern United States stretching from Alaska to North Carolina, most of Canada, much of Europe and parts of northwestern Africa.
A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly between the Earth and the Sun, casting its central shadow across a narrow path on the planet’s surface.
