Japan marks 81 years since atomic bombing of Hiroshima

Japan marked 81 years since the U.S. atomic bombing of Hiroshima on Thursday. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi attended the Peace Memorial Park ceremony, where people across Japan took time to pause and remember the victims.

During the ceremony, Takaichi emphasized Japan's unique mission as the only nation to suffer atomic wartime bombing to pursue a world without nuclear weapons. Hiroshima Mayor placed an updated list of atomic bomb victims inside the park’s cenotaph which holds 4,393 names of victims whose deaths were confirmed over the past year.
