Suspects of Monk Murderers arrested: All suspects arrested along with evidence

In Yangon Region, Hmawbi Township, Ward (2), within the Sandakumyaing Monastery compound, a monk residing there was murdered, and two mobile phones and 500,000 kyats were stolen. The five suspects have been identified and arrested along with evidence, and efforts are being made to take effective legal action against them, according to the Myanmar Police Force.

The incident occurred, in Ward (2), Hmawbi Township, Yangon Region, within the Sandakumyaing Monastery compound, the resident monk, U Pannavamsa (also known as Dr. Phe Nyan), aged 75, with 15 years of monkhood or vassa , was found murdered with stab wounds in a monastery building on the afternoon of July 2. It was reported that the monk's two mobile phones were missing. Consequently, a case was filed at Hmawbi Township Police Station under Case No. (Pa) 322/2026, under Penal Code Sections 302 and 394. A special investigation team was formed to identify and arrest the perpetrators. On the afternoon of July 11, the first suspect, Thet Paing Tun (also known as Paing Lay), aged 20, a resident of Kalargyi Kone Village, Hmawbi Township, was arrested at his home.

Based on interrogations and investigations of suspect Thet Paing Tun, the remaining four suspects were arrested on the evening of the same day and on July 12.

The five suspects involved in the murder of the monk at Sandakumyaing Monastery in Hmawbi Township and the robbery of two mobile phones and 500,000 kyats have been identified and arrested along with evidence. They are: Thet Paing Tun (also known as Paing Lay), Soe Yaza (also known as Soe Win Kyaw), Wai Yan Naing (also known as Wai Yan), Toe Win Kyaw (also known as Toe Wai Kyaw, also known as Kalar), and Soe Htet (also known as AKT). Authorities are continuing proceedings to ensure effective legal action in accordance with the law.
