






National Committee on Social Protection held its meeting at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday.
Chairperson of the Committee Vice President Daw Nan Ni Ni Aye attended the meeting and made a speech, calling for stronger efforts to improve Myanmar’s social protection system.
She said social protection is a key foundation for national development, helping to reduce poverty, to improve people’s livelihoods and to support human resource development. She highlighted the programmes being implemented under Myanmar’s National Social Protection Strategic Plan, including support for pregnant women and children, assistance for people with disabilities, school nutrition programmes, vocational training, social pensions and other community support services.
The Vice President stressed the need for cooperation among government agencies, private businesses, charity organizations and the public to ensure effective implementation of social protection programmes.
She also called for a review of the national strategy, which was introduced more than 10 years ago, to build a stronger and more modern social protection system. The meeting discussed the work implementation on social protection projects, and future plans.
