Farmers' Affairs: Meeting with the committee members

Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U Khin Yi along with the Deputy Speaker U Maung Maung Ohn and officials met with the committee members of Farmers' Affairs Committee at Hluttaw complex in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday.

The Committee Chairman U Myat Kyaw reported on the committee's current working process and future plans.

Deputy Speaker U Maung Maung Ohn in his capacity as Chairman of the Hluttaw Rights Committee also briefed on committee’s efforts in implementing daily working tasks of Hluttaw and its representatives for raising the prestige of Hluttaw.

In order to  promote the role of Hluttaw during 5-year period, law related training courses and seminars are being provided to Hluttaw representatives with the aims to promote their knowledge and skills. 

The Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker later discussed matters on reviewing existing laws that need to be amended and supplemented in line with the current regulations along with the enactment of new laws, reviewing the current situation in Myanmar. For the benefits of farmers, the Speaker stressed the need to draft new laws where necessary and to open representative offices in accordance with respective constituencies.

Stating the crucial role of Farmers Affairs Committee, Speaker U Khin Yi urged related departments and social organizations to observe difficulties encountered by the farmers for their socio-economic development.

He added that the Hluttaw also submitted and approved a proposal to establish a “Commission for Regulating the Prices of Farm, Plantation, and Garden Produces” while initiating the plans to review illegal farmlands utilization, shrinking agricultural workforce, climate changes, natural disasters and agricultural loans. The Speaker called for collaborative efforts among farmers, related ministries, NGO and INGO for the development of country’s agriculture sector.
