Bar Council Meeting: MOLA UM, UAG and Chair of Bar Council meeting

The Bar Council Meeting No. 1/2026 was held on Wednesday at the Bar Council Office in Zayyathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw.

At the meeting, the matter regarding the Supreme Court of the Union seeking the Bar Council's opinion on whether there are any objections to permitting 164 senior advocates who have applied to be registered as Supreme Court advocates, the Bar Council's opinion on whether appropriate action should be taken against 13 Supreme Court advocates who have violated professional ethics, in accordance with Section 10(1) of the Bar Council Act, the matters concerning an application submitted by a Supreme Court advocate seeking endorsement of good moral character in order to be appointed as a bank lawyer, the application submitted by senior member U Mya Thein, a member of the Bar Council, requesting permission to resign from his membership due to health reasons, along with matters concerning the filling of the vacant member position and the Vice-Chairman position, the amendment of Rules 1(b), 8, and 15, and the insertion of Rule 1(d) after Rule 1(c) of the 1954 Rules for Admission as Supreme Court Advocates, the recording of complaints that have been forwarded to the Supreme Court of the Union,  the recording of copies of orders relating to severe warnings, suspensions, and disbarments of Supreme Court advocates from practicing as legal representatives,  were discussed, negotiated, and decided. The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Legal Affairs, Union Attorney General, and Chairperson of the Bar Council, Dr. Thida Oo, leading the meeting, along with member Deputy Minister and Deputy Attorney General, Dr. Htein Lin Oo, other members of the Bar Council, and responsible officials.
