Opening of Football Tournament : YGN CM opened UM-1 Rector’s Cup football tournament

The opening ceremony of the 2026 Monsoon Season Football Tournament for the Rector's Cup of the University of Medicine (1), Yangon, was held Wednesday morning at the Universities Football Ground on Thaton Road, Kamayut Township, Yangon Region. The ceremony was attended by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu, who delivered the opening address.

Afterward, Professor Dr. Kyaw Shwe, Rector of the University of Medicine (1), Yangon, and Professor Dr. Aung Cho Tun, Chairman of the Central Committee for Sports and Physical Education of the University of Medicine (1), Yangon, each delivered speeches.

Subsequently, Region Chief Minister, and officials officially opened the event by cutting the ribbon and warmly greeted the competing athletes.

Following this, students from the University of Medicine (1), Yangon, performed pomp om dance performances for entertainment.

Afterward, Chief Minister presented cash awards to the performing groups.

The tournament will be held from July 8, to July 20, 2026, with 5 teams from various academic years and a total of 103 athletes participating, it is reported.
