Hemis Festival begins in Ladakh, showcasing Buddhist heritage and culture

The annual Hemis Festival began on June 24 in Ladakh, northern India bringing together devotees, tourists and cultural enthusiasts to celebrate the region’s rich Buddhist traditions and spiritual heritage.

The festival has attracted devotees, Buddhist scholars and tourists from India and abroad. The celebrations began with traditional religious rituals, prayers and the sacred Cham mask dances performed by monks of the monastery.  Dignitaries at the event highlighted the importance of preserving Ladakh’s cultural and spiritual heritage. The festival provides visitors with an opportunity to experience the region’s vibrant traditions and Buddhist legacy, further strengthening Ladakh as a major destination for cultural and religious tourism.
