Pope Leo XIV has held Mass at the Sagrada Familia Basilica in Barcelona to celebrate the completion of the famed church's main spire. Wednesday marks the 100th anniversary of the death of its architect, Antoni Gaudi.

Construction of the Sagrada Familia has been underway for more than 140 years. The Tower of Jesus Christ, standing more than 170 meters tall, was completed this year. More than 4,000 guests attended the Mass. Spain's king and queen, as well as the country's prime minister, were among them.

Many others watched on screens outside. Construction of the church continues, including work on a gate known as the Glory Facade. Completion of the entire structure is expected to take about another 10 years.
