











At the invitation of Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win attended the 10thAsia Pacific Leaders' Summit on Malaria Elimination jointly organized by the Ministry of Health of Laos and the Asia Pacific Leaders Malaria Alliance in Vientiane on 5th June.
Prime Minister of Lao PDR Mr. Sonexay Siphandone delivered opening remarks and the Laotian Minister of Health Madam Baykham Khattiya and the Union Minister Dr. Thet Khaing Win delivered speeches respectively. Myanmar delegation later attended the High-level Round-table Discussion titled GMS Malaria Elimination in 2030: Celebrating Progress and Acknowledging the Need for a Differentiated Approach.
The Union Minister made discussions on Myanmar’s 2030 malaria elimination progress and further collaborative malaria elimination measures at Myanmar-China and Myanmar-Thailand border areas.
During the discussion, a re-confirmation prompt on Joint Call to action to Malaria Elimination in the Greater Mekong Subregion was signed.
In the afternoon, the Union Minister and Myanmar Ambassador to Lao PDR U Aung Ko met with the Vice Minister of the National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China Dr Yong Zhang. Both sides cordially exchanged views on matters pertaining to acceleration of malaria and infectious diseases elimination measures at Myanmar-China border area, collaboration in disease diagnosis and genetic research using AI, as well as bilateral health cooperation.
Likewise, the Union Minister met with Laotian Minister for Health in the evening. The meeting focused on signing of MoUs between the two ministries, information transparency, and bilateral cooperation in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
