Opening of Basketball Competition: YGN CM attended and delivered the opening speech

The opening ceremony of the (14)-district U-25 men’s and women’s basketball competition, organized by the Yangon Region Government, was held Wednesday morning at National Indoor Stadium (1) (Thuwanna), Thingangyun Township. Yangon Region Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu attended and delivered the opening speech. After carrying out the procedure of opening ceremony, the Chief Minister and officials watched and cheered for the first match between Kamayut District and Kyauktada District teams.

The competition features (14) teams with a total of (196) athletes and will run from June 3rd to June 9th.

Furthermore, a ceremony to provide educational stipends and school supplies for students who are children of the civil service personnel from the departments operating within the Yangon Region Government Office for the 2026-2027 academic year was held on the afternoon of June 2nd at the Mingala Hall, Yangon Region Government Office. Yangon Region Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu delivered the opening speech at the event.

Subsequently, the Chief Minister accepted educational stipends and school supplies donated by well-wishers and then presented certificates of honor in return.

After that, Yangon Region Chief Minister and his wife presented educational stipends and exercise books to students who will be studying in the 2026-2027 academic year, ranging from KG to Grade 5, Grade 6 to Grade 9, Grade 10 to Grade 12, and the university students.

Continuing on, the final and award ceremony of the 2026 Region and State U-18 Men’s Football Competition was held on the evening of June 2nd at the Thuwanna Football Training Ground in Yangon. Yangon Region Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu and officials watched and cheered for the final match between Kayin State and Shan State teams.

Afterwards, an award ceremony was held. Responsible officials presented individual best player awards and cash prize respectively to the teams placed fourth (Kachin State), third (Ayeyawady Region), and second (Shan State).

Following that, the Speaker of Yangon Region Hluttaw, U Htay Aung, presented individual medals to the champion team, Kayin State; the Senior Vice President of the Asian Football Confederation and President of the Myanmar Football Federation, U Zaw Zaw, presented cash prize and Yangon Region Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu presented the champion trophy, it’s reported.
