The President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, U Min Aung Hlaing, who is on an official visit to New Delhi, India, was paid a courtesy call Tuesday morning by Shri Sanjay Malhotra, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India.
During the meeting, they cordially discussed matters including the ongoing efforts to enhance bilateral trade and economic activities, and to promote cooperation in various sectors, the prospects for collaboration between the central banks of the two countries to facilitate faster and smoother payment transactions, the status of arrangements for direct payments in Rupees and Kyat for trade activities, the potential for India to share and provide training on banking systems to Myanmar’s bank officials and the possibility of sharing experiences regarding digital payment systems between the two nations.
The meeting was attended, on the Myanmar side, by Union Ministers U Khin Maung Yi and U Tin Maung Swe, along with the Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar, Dr. Khin Naing Oo, and members of delegation, who are accompanying the President on the visit. On the Indian side, the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India was joined by responsible officials from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, it’s reported.
