World No Tobacco Day: MOH UM delivered the opening remarks

A ceremony commemorating World No Tobacco Day 2026 was held on 1 June 2026 at the Meeting Hall of the Ministry of Health, Office No. 4, in Nay Pyi Taw.

During the opening ceremony, the Union Minister for Health, Thet Khaing Win, delivered an opening address. He stated that the event was organized to raise public awareness about the dangers of tobacco and tobacco-product use and to strengthen tobacco control measures being implemented by countries around the world.

He further noted that the theme designated by the World Health Organization (WHO) for World No Tobacco Day 2026 is: “Unmasking the appeal; Countering nicotine and tobacco addiction.”

The Union Minister emphasized the importance of exposing and eliminating the factors that make nicotine and tobacco addiction appealing, in order to ensure that future generations grow up healthy, strong, and well-rounded. He called on all sectors of society to work together in combating nicotine and tobacco addiction and promoting a healthier future for the nation's youth.
