President Claudia Sheinbaum fulfilled a promise by giving away her personal ticket to the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to the winner of a national football skills competition. The ticket numbered 00001 — was awarded to Yolett Cervantes Cuaquehua, a 21-year-old Indigenous woman from Veracruz who won a dribbling and ball-control contest organized by the Mexican government.

The competition, called Represent Mexico at the World Cup opening, invited young women aged 16–25 to demonstrate football juggling and ball-handling skills. She told organizers that football became her passion after a trip to Spain and that she trained intensely, performing thousands of ball touches during practice.
