Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney welcomed Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Ottawa during the first visit by China's top diplomat to Canada in a decade.

Wang visit is widely seen as a follow-up to Carney's January 2026 trip to Beijing, where Canada and China announced an updated strategic partnership and began repairing diplomatic ties. Wang said China could potentially double Canadian exports to China by 2030 if bilateral relations remain stable and positive. Both sides discussed strengthening economic ties, investment, and market access.
