Vocational Education: School enrollment at GTHS (Ywama)

School Enrollment Week for basic education schools across Myanmar for the 2026-2027 Academic Year began on May 25th. At the Government Technical High School (Ywama) in Insein Township, students and parents are crowded for school enrollment process.

Zeya Aung, Principal, Government Technical High School (Ywama) said "Under the government’s 100 days plan, our school is prioritizing for more school enrollment in the coming academic year. In cooperation with the related departments, arrangements are underway to offer opportunities for the out of school students who want to learn vocational subject. In the second week of June, we are planning to meet with the parents to be able to conduct knowledge sharing sessions on drug trafficking, road safety measures and educational seminar. Career consulting will also be conducted dividing into two sessions, career consulting with the parents and students, and discussion will be made with MSME entrepreneurs within Yangon Region for job creation."

There are altogether 35 Government Technical High Schools in Myanmar under the management of the Department of Technical and Vocational Education and Training of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Student, Aung Thet Khaing, Third Year (ET) said "I choose Government Technical High School for vocational training and my major subject is electrical engineering. After my academic year, I will work at the company and I will continue to learn the electrical engineering. I want to the students who passed grade-9 examination to join this vocational high school for their live insurance. "

Student, Yamone Paing, Third Year (IT) said "The school is conducting C double plus programming relating IT Personal Area Network (PAN) and other IT technologies. The school offers stipend and free text books once a month. I was selected to attend Basic Aviation Youth Training Course batch No. 10 and I would like to thanks all the responsible officials."

The students can submit for school entry until May 30th and the school entry lists will be released on May 31st. Registration forms are being accepted as a priority for those who passed Grade-9 examination in 2024-2025 Academic Year and 2025-2026 Academic Year, as well as for those who passed Grade-10 examination in 2025-2026 Academic Year. A total of 427 students has registered for the school enrollment as of May 29.
