Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz announced he would cut his salary and that of his cabinet ministers by 50%, amid fierce street protests calling for his resignation.

The 58-year-old centre-right leader is facing the worst crisis of his short tenure, which began last November, as unions representing farmers, miners, teachers and factory workers have been staging street protests since early May, at the call of the Bolivian Workers’ Union, the country's largest trade union.
