At a press briefing after a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Helsingborg, Sweden, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said there had been “some progress” in ongoing talks involving Iran, but emphasized that major disagreements remain unresolved.

He said the United States remains concerned about Iran’s uranium enrichment activities and insisted that Iran “can never have nuclear weapons.” Rubio noted that negotiations still need to address Tehran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium. He also said freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz is a major international concern, with NATO allies discussing the issue during the Sweden meeting.
