Regional Cooperation: 5th Myanmar-Philippines Foreign Policy Consultations

The 5thMyanmar-Philippines Foreign Policy Consultations co-chaired by U Ko Ko Kyaw, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, and Mr. Leo M. Herrera-Lim, Undersecretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, was held at the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines on 18 May.

At the meeting, they cordially exchanged views on enhancing diplomatic relations and cooperation, strengthening trade and investment ties, advancing energy cooperation, and combating transnational crimes, and promoting people-to-people contacts.

The discussion further covered Myanmar’s political developments including the key priorities of the newly elected Government and Myanmar’s cooperation to normalize its relations with ASEAN. The two sides exchanged views on regional and global issues such as the ongoing conflict in Middle East and its impact on the region as well as the matters of common interest of both countries.
