Macron calls for regulating cryptocurrencies to prevent terrorist purposes

French President Emmanuel Macron has demanded sweeping regulations on cryptocurrencies to prevent their misuse for terrorist purposes.

He issued the call during the "No Money for Terror" conference in Paris on Thursday, which was held alongside the G7 finance ministers meeting to develop strategies for cutting off extremist financing. During the event, he warned that there can be no sustainable global peace and financial stability if the digital asset ecosystem is allowed to operate outside traditional regulatory boundaries.

This push complements the European Union's ongoing rollout of the Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation, which imposes strict anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing standards across member states.
