Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin signed more than 20 bilateral agreements during their May 2026 summit in Beijing.

The wide-ranging pacts span technology, sustainable trade, and intellectual property, as well as the extension of their friendship treaty and a joint declaration advocating for a multipolar world. Moreover, both leaders reached a high degree of consensus on furthering oil and gas sector cooperation, using the summit to discuss long-term energy security and push forward ongoing negotiations for the proposed Power of Siberia 2 pipeline.

The pipeline aims to play a critical part in Russia's energy pivot and China's energy security, carrying 50 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually from Russia’s Arctic Yamal fields to China via Mongolia.
