





"Under the amended rules concerning foreign permanent residence, initial applications for foreign permanent residence can now be submitted not only within Myanmar but also at Myanmar embassies in foreign countries," said Union Minister for Union Minister for Immigration and Population, Chairman of the Central Committee for Implementation of Foreign Permanent Residence, U Myint Kyaing in his opening address at the work coordination meeting of the Central Committee for Implementation of Foreign Permanent Residence, held on May 19, at the meeting hall of the Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw, it’s learnt. The Union Minister, Chairman of Central Committee, continued by explaining that since Myanmar does not permit dual citizenship, the purpose of granting permanent residence for a defined period is to allow foreign businesspersons, intellectuals, experts, and former Myanmar citizens who have acquired other citizenships to come, invest, and work in the country.
He stated that at this Central Committee meeting, further scrutiny would be applied to the documentation of 28 principal applicants and 8 family members, totaling 36 individuals, whose applications had been preliminarily reviewed and submitted by the working committee at its meeting held on May 7. He added that after this scrutiny, arrangements would be made to conduct in-person interviews and evaluations as soon as possible for those who had previously been pending such interviews, as well as for those approved in the current review.
He urged attendees to provide broad and extensive opinions on the matters at hand and to offer collective discussions and suggestions regarding the data of foreign permanent residence applicants. Subsequently, the Central Committee Secretary, the officer in-charge acting on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, and the Director-General of the Immigration Department clarified the ongoing work and future work plans. Following this, the Central Committee Secretary and members gave collective feedback, suggestions, and discussions. Afterward, the Chairman of the Central Committee, Union Minister U Myint Kyaing, coordinated necessary actions based on the discussions and delivered a concluding address regarding the continuation of in-person interviews and evaluations for those approved by the Central Committee, it’s reported.
