The 32nd meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Consumer Protection opened at the Chatrium Hotel in Yangon on Monday, with participation from ASEAN Secretariat officials and representatives of ASEAN member countries.
The meeting focused on strengthening consumer protection across ASEAN by addressing regulatory gaps, enhancing cross-border cooperation and ensuring consumer safety in both local and online purchases within the region.
Myanmar, with support from experts from Canada, ASEAN member countries and the ASEAN Secretariat, has also developed lessons related to advertising, marketing and data protection.
Hosted by Myanmar, the meeting is being held from May 18 to 20 to discuss strategic initiatives under the ASEAN Consumer Protection Strategic Plan (2026-2030), product safety monitoring and enforcement, and the establishment of an effective online dispute resolution mechanism, it’s reported.
