Eight injured as driver in Italian city runs over pedestrians

The total of eight people was injured after a speeding driver deliberately mounted the curb and rammed into a crowd of pedestrians in the northern Italian city of Modena on Saturday.

The male driver emerged from the vehicle holding a knife but was quickly disarmed and tackled by citizens and subsequently taken into police custody. Police and local authorities reported that there are no immediate signs the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
