Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has appointed Juan Carlos Carpio as the new director (CEO) of Mexico’s state-owned oil company, Pemex, following the resignation of Víctor Rodríguez Padilla. The leadership change comes at a difficult time for Pemex, which is facing heavy financial debt, declining oil production, refinery accidents, and operational challenges.
Juan Carlos Carpio previously served as Pemex’s Chief Financial Officer and is known for his expertise in public finance and debt management. Analysts believe his appointment signals that the Mexican government wants to focus strongly on financial restructuring, operational discipline and restoring investor confidence in Pemex.
