Distribution of Major Crops Seeds: Sagaing Region CM attended the ceremony

A ceremony for distributing seeds to achieve target yields for monsoon crops (long-staple cotton, black gram, sunflower) in the 2026-2027 agricultural year was held on the morning of May 12 at the meeting hall of the Regional Department of Agriculture office in Monywa, Sagaing Region.

At the ceremony, the Region Chief Minister U Ko Lay stated that continuous support is being provided to achieve target yields for the 13 main crops important to the nation, with oilseed soybeans added as an additional crop. He emphasized that all responsible officials need to work together to promote the widespread emergence of finished-goods manufacturing industries based on agriculture and livestock, utilizing the region's favorable land and water resources.

Afterwards, the District Manager from the Department of Agriculture in Monywa District explained cultivation techniques for long-staple cotton. Subsequently, the Region Chief Minister, members of the Region Government, and the Chairman of the Monywa District Administration and Management Committee distributed seeds for monsoon crops including long-staple cotton, black gram, and sunflower to 320 local farmers from 47 villages in Monywa and Yinmabin Districts.

Following this, the Region Chief Minister, responsible officials, and local farmers toured demonstrations within the office compound, including a demonstration by Department of Agriculture staff on making and using natural pesticides, producing biochar, and making and using rice husk vinegar, as well as exhibits from the Crop Protection Division, Seed Division, Land Use Division, and the Department of Beekeeping. The Chief Minister provided necessary coordination and assistance with responsible officials as needed, it’s reported.
