Guatemalan president says country will bring end to era of judicial 'perversion'

Guatemalan President Bernardo Arévalo said Monday that his country will bring an end to an era of judicial "perversion" with the conclusion of Attorney General Consuelo Porras’s term, as she has been sanctioned by the United States and the European Union.

Porras will step down next Saturday, after failing in her bid for a third term. International legal experts view her departure as key to tackling the corruption network entrenched in the Guatemalan justice system.
