Chad declared a 20-day state of emergency in the Lake Chad region following intense Boko Haram attacks, including an assault that killed 24 military personnel. The country’s President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno vowed to continue the fight against the terrorist group with renewed determination.

This followed a major attack in October 2024 that resulted in around 40 soldier casualties, prompting a previous counteroffensive. In response to the October 2024 attack, Deby launched a counter-offensive which he vowed to lead on the ground for two weeks.
