World leaders had arrived in San José, Costa Rica, for the inauguration of President-elect Laura Fernández on May 8, marking a significant diplomatic event. Besides, delegations from 71 countries and 18 international organizations will attend the ceremony, including Spain's King Felipe VI and several Latin American presidents

The ceremony at the National Stadium will signify the formal transfer of power from outgoing President Rodrigo Chaves to Fernández for the 2026-2030 term. For Costa Rica, Fernández’s inauguration is considered as one of Costa Rica's largest recent diplomatic events, emphasizing strong regional and European ties.
