Japan, Türkiye step up cooperation in defense equipment

A major defense equipment fair is underway in Istanbul, Turkiye bringing together more than 1,700 firms from across the globe. The five-day exhibition opened on Tuesday.

Various defense technologies, including the latest in drones and defense systems, are being showcased. The Japanese government last year reached an agreement with Turkiye, a member of NATO, to enhance defense cooperation.

Against this backdrop, officials from the two nations exchanged notes of agreement confirming their commitment to expand cooperation in the field of defense equipment. Both sides expect private-sector firms from the two countries to strengthen ties by jointly developing defense equipment, including drones.
